Sania, aged 13, was born in a small village called Sinibung. She lived in a house with her brother Eldo, her parents, and her grandmother.

Life was often difficult. While her mother was gentle and caring, her father was quite the opposite. An alcoholic with a fierce temper, he would often hit her mother for no reason. From what Senia remembers of him during her early childhood, between the ages of three and six, he frequently shouted at her, but apart from that, he had very little interaction with her at all.

​

She would often go and play by the river and enjoyed simply spending time there. She attended school, but she felt as though she had little hope for the future. She often misbehaved and struggled academically, to the point that she was not allowed to progress to Year 2 Primary school.

​

This upset both Sania and her family. However, when her aunt heard about the situation, she decided to bring her to Living Waters Village. Coincidences do not exist. In many situations where difficult things happen, God is working out a plan for our lives that is far better than we could ever imagine.

​

Senia moved here into a new home, with new asrama parents to care for her, and into a school where teachers gave her the attention and support she needed. When she arrived at the age of seven, she was angry with everyone and everything. She desperately wanted to be back at home. Alongside her homesickness, she also had to cope with learning that her parents had divorced, and later, she faced the heartbreaking news that her father had taken his own life.

But over time, God began to work in her heart, and she found a relationship with her loving Creator that she had never known before. The anger gradually disappeared, and at school, far from failing, she has now been top of her class for three years in a row!

She particularly loves English and says she wants to become an English teacher when she grows up—something that would surely amaze the teachers who taught her back in her village. But that is how our God works: transforming us into the best versions of ourselves, often to such an extent that people can hardly believe how different we once were.
